Brunch the Barcelona Way

Hi Readers!

It's Christmas week and this Nashville weather's been downright gross! If you're like me, preparation for the holiday has had you crazy busy and you really just want a chance to kick back. Stop with the cooking and the serving and the shopping and the rushing, and get yourself to Barcelona Wine Bar - Edgehill!

Tucked in a rustic little nook along Villa Place, Barcelona brings its unique tapas cuisine to Nashville with an eclectic mix of food influenced by Spain, South America, and the Mediterranean. The atmosphere itself is cozy, with dark wood paneling, brick and various vintage knick-knacks lining a bookshelf style wall (my personal favorite being the antique cameras). A large marble bar rounds out the center of the venue with a more formal dining area located in the back behind a unique block barrier, large canvas art adorning the walls.

We had the pleasure of popping in for the roll out of their brand new brunch, and it is not to be missed! But before we dive in to the delectable dishes take note: Barcelona - Edgehill will be offering brunch served from 11:30am-3:00pm on Christmas Eve, the day after Christmas, New Year's Eve, AND New Year's Day. Go make your reservations asap!

Now for the yummy part. Let's start with the Bloody Mary Bar, shall we? It's exactly what it sounds like. During Barcelona brunch you can opt into their Bloody Mary Bar where you'll receive a glass of vodka and the rest is up to you! Choose from tomato sauce or a house made mix then add all kinds of things to your drink. Fresh veggies, spices, lemon and lime juices, the possibilities are endless! I certainly treated myself to this fun drink option.

Next we dug into some of their incredible dishes! All were absolutely divine but if I had to choose my favorite, the Churros and Chicken, Huevos Estrellados, and Short Rib Hash all tied for top spots. I've included photos and descriptions below to help you decided what YOU want to try when you go (but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them). Now, if you're not familiar with tapas style dining, these are small plates meant to share. Grab a couple of your friends, each of you order something different, and just sample around! Not only do you get to try a few different items, it's great for conversation as you pick your favorites and compare tastes!

Banana Crepas and Short Rib Hash | These crepes were absolutely delightful, with a banana center
and a caramel and nut topping, the short rib hash literally melted in my mouth. Like. Buttah.

Churros & Chicken | I LOVED this take on "Chicken & Waffles"

Torrijas | This was a Spanish style french toast, topped with powdered sugar and drenched in syrup!

Pan con Huevos | A nice hearty plate by way of toast, hollowed out and filled with an egg,
covered in a pork spread.

Pork Belly Benedict | This was a lighter breakfast dish with a poached egg atop pork belly and
a toasted english muffin.

Georgia Shrimp Biscuit | Two thumps up for this buttermilk biscuit topped with Georgia shrimp!

Huevos Estrellados | One of my top three, this little bowl is filled with chopped potatoes and chorizo,
covered with a fried egg. De-Lish!

Overall, we had an incredible experience at Barcelona - Edgehill. The staff was beyond accommodating, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food was to die for. Nashville, make sure to make your reservations for the holidays now, and follow Barcelona Wine Bar on Instagram HERE.

My Fine Feathered (Nest Boutique) Friend

Hi Readers!

Happy Monday! I'm so excited to continue my non-traditional Gift Guides and introduce you to the incredible Feathered Nest Boutique! This online shop based out of Athens, GA has captured the hearts of monogram lovers everywhere and I know YOU are going to fall in love with it too!

I met Kathryn (Keith as she's known to friends) by chance via Instagram and I tell you, I've never seen a harder working woman! I asked her a little bit about how she got started and what inspires her. Here's what she told me:

"I started FNB five years ago after struggling with major depression after losing both of my parents. It was a way for me to create, focus on something positive, and start interacting again after two years of battling depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I started making purses but soon fell into a passion for monograms and decided to open an Etsy shop. I had five items then, now it's become a home-grown business that I can't quite believe! I personally make each and every item and absolutely adore creating pretties for people. And while I still prefer to 'hide' behind my screen, I love being able to interact with customers through my Etsy shop and social media. Baby steps!
I was surrounded by strong, creative Southern women growing up who taught me to sew, work hard and never give up. Whenever I hit a wall with FNB, I think about them and how they would attack it. My mother was an amazing artist who, in the 1980s, had her own counted cross stitch business. I was able to work national trade shows with her and learned to always strive to provide the customer with more than they expect. That's why I include my handmade hair ties with every order - my little way of saying thank you!
My Daddy was a third-generation farmer who gave me my love of all things Southern, and I'm actually in the process of rebranding my business and changing the name (hopefully in the Spring!) to honor my Daddy and our family's farm."

Today, Kathryn creates everything from graphic tops to scarves, totes, hats, and koozies, including an exclusive Southern Girls Collection. You'll be able to find something for every gal on your list at Feathered Nest Boutique, and I've attached some of my faves for you to check out below. Show Kathryn some love y'all!

Cozy up in a beautiful blanket scarf and make sure no one can take it by

I stinkin' LOVE all of her seasonal graphic raglan tees. Snag this one HERE

Although the time for receiving this pretty little 1/4 zip by Christmas has passed,
you should still get one. Or two. I LIVE in this thing. Grab it HERE

Holiday Looks For When You "Literally Can't" With Red and Green

Oh December. You bring the cold, and the shopping, and the parties. All the parties. But doesn't it get tiring? The "festive" looks? The outifts that shout the strange pairing of reds and greens? Like...would we wear that color combo at ANY other time of the year? Well, if your style is less traditional Christmas and more, I don't know, anything but red and green, then I've got a few looks for you!

Before we dive in, however, I wanted to share one bit of advice. If you're planning outfits for festive parties, think MATERIAL, not color. You'll look just as festive in metallics, sequins, or fabrics with sheen to them as you would in red and green. Thus we segway into 3 alternatives for your holiday plans!

Let me know what you think babes!

Look 1 features the fan favorite sequins! Get your shine on in BLUE with a leather legging
and a graphic bomber.
Top: Renamed | Jacket: Peach Love CA | Leggings: Spanx
Top & Jacket provided by Muse Nashville

Look 2 is all about metal with the focus on my shiny gold jacket! I paired mine with a camo crop,
high waisted black jean, and funky olive heel.
Jacket: Forever 21 | Top: Wasabi + Mint | Jeans: O2 | Heels: Liliana
Top, Jeans, & Shoes provided by Muse Nashville

And Look 3 is about sheen with this ribbed velour top in a pretty mauve. A burgundy pant, leather
jacket, and chunky heel rounded out this style.
Top: Potter's Pot | Pants: Old Navy | Jacket: Kenneth Cole Reaction | Heels: Aldo

Sparkling with Shane Co.: For the Jewelry Lover on Your List

Hi Readers!

Ready for my second installment of Holiday 2016? Today is for those who LOVE the shiny things.

I first met the wonderful people of Shane Co. this past April as we were all gearing up for Nashville's Iroquois Steeplechase. They were incredible hosts of a darling little event and I had the most fun getting to talk to their staff. Incredible customer service, well educated on the product, and the next time I came in they greeted me by name! Bonus? They helped me pick out the prettiest Citrine ring that I wear constantly (and get compliments on constantly!).

Shane Co. itself is a family tradition, founded in 1971 by Tom Shane, a third generation jeweler. Tom Shane has made sure to keep in tact his father's and grandfather's commitment to quality, value, and customer service. Shane Co. buys their diamonds and other gems first hand so there's no distributor mark-up, and they provide a 60-day money-back guarantee to customers who aren't 100% thrilled with their Shane Co. purchases.

On top of all of that goodness, Shane Co.'s staff makes sure to provide customers with all of the knowledge they need to make informed decisions when purchasing their jewelry. Even after the sale, customers are tended to FOR LIFE with complimentary cleanings and inspections. Having your jewelry inspected every 6 months also insures the Free Lifetime Waranty on Shane Co. jewelry, for life! You just can't beat this buying experience.

So, for you sparkle lovers (or those of you that need to buy something for other sparkle lovers), I've featured some of MY favorite Shane Co. pretties below! Shop each piece by clicking the links below the photos OR shop their entire site HERE:

Agathos Athleisure: For the Active on Your List

Hi Readers!

Well, here we are, thick in the middle of gift shopping, prepping for Christmas! Each year bloggers work tirelessly to bunch together Gift Guides to help our followers find the most perfect and unique items for everyone on their list. As I was getting ready to put my own Gift Guides together I had a thought. What if, instead of sending people to lots of different big box places, I made it more personal? What if I focused on amazing brands that offer cool items, have incredible customer service and a passion behind what they do? I loved the idea!

So this year I'm foregoing the traditional Gift Guides and I'm introducing you to brands I love in in-depth features, beginning today with Agathos Athleisure.

Y'all, athleisure is so hot right now. Whether you're an avid Yogi, hit the gym twice a week, or just like to run errands in comfort, cute athletic wear is a must. But what if your super trendy leggings did more than just make you look like you lead a healthy lifestyle? What if they did GOOD for the WORLD?

Well, that's what Agathos Athleisure does. Agathos itself is Greek for 'good,' and each brand sold by Agathos is ethical, sustainable, fair trade, organic, or philanthropic. From clothing made of recycled materials to profits being donated to rescue animals, you'll feel good AND look good with Agathos Athleisure! PS - They're based out of Nashville too!

Check out my Agathos faves below and shop this company HERE:

A December in Tobi

Hi Readers! Happy Wednesday!

Today I wanted to introduce you to a new favorite brand of mine: Tobi.

Born in LA, Tobi is a fashion forward retailer that doesn't just sell gorgeous women's apparel, but designs and produces it as well, all out of their Los Angeles headquarters! Tobi is a one stop shop for young contemporaries looking for on-trend and high quality clothing, shoes, and accessories at killer price points. But what's more is that Tobi gives back to the community. Babes, you know how important this is to me! Tobi Cares is the platform through which Tobi itself provides scholarships to young women, donations to organizations hand-picked by their customers, and encourages employees to sponsor chartiable organizations as well as give time volunteering. Now that's something I can get behind!

Today is the LAST DAY for you to shop Tobi and receive 60% off new arivals and 50% off storewide, but before you hurry off to gather new goodies, I wanted to share three of my favorite Tobi picks with you! These little dresses will be perfect for your December plans.

Make sure to let me know what you think about the stylings and definitely share YOUR finds with me!

This navy blue faux wrap shift has a plunging v-neck, sheer sleeves and the prettiest ruching on the side. Pair it with a camel boot and a beaded boho necklace for a fierce casual look
this Fall/Winter! Shop this dress here: Marisole Wrap Shift Dress

You NEED a good sweater dress this season. Seriously. And this burgundy babe has a trendy choker and flattering v-neck style. I paired it with a leather jacket, studded booties, and a felt hat for an edgy look. Although this particular dress is sold out, you can shop similar styles here: Tobi Sweater Dresses

It's probably the hottest thing in fashion right now. Velvet is taking over and this little number is just what the doctor ordered. This velvet mini dress has spaghetti straps, plunge back, and ties on the sides. You could easily wear it as is, but I upped the style on it a bit by putting a lace long sleeved top underneath and rocked my new mary jane style heels with it. Although this particular dress is sold out, you can add a little velvet to your wardrobe here: Tobi Velvet Items

Flirty Shoulders & Celebrating Singleness

I did a thing recently. And to be honest with you I've been a little embarrassed about it. This last week I was featured on the recently launched Bachelorettes of Nashville Instagram page as their first official bachelorette. The process of being chosen starts with being nominated or nominating yourself and giving a little spiel about who you are and what you do yada yada. A few friends and I had been curious about signing up but I was hesitant. Would this seem desperate? Do I really want the whole world (okay, maybe that's a little dramatic) knowing just how single I am?

And then someone nominated me without my knowing. (I'm looking at YOU, roommate.) So I scratched my head and shrugged my shoulders and said what the heck. Might be a cool experience. They might not even pick me!

...But they did. And here we are. I cannot explain to you the anxiety I felt the day they were scheduled to do my feature. Would the picture be a good one? Would I look ridiculous? Which parts of my interview would they include? What if I come off as a bimbo? Would this make me look less desirable to the men of Nashville? No really, these were thoughts I had. I feel like sometimes it's more socially acceptable for men to be single and proud of it. For women it's different. For women it's "Why are you single?" "Don't you want to get married?" "When I was your age I was having my first child." "The clock is ticking."

You people have really got to stop that.

You see, I don't WANT to be single. But I am. And that's okay (hear that Family?) It's okay to be single. I'm working on ME. It's okay to be single. I'm learning patience. It's okay to be single. I'm not settling for guys that won't love me the way I deserve to be loved. It's okay to be single, GOD IS IN CONTROL.

So you know what? I'm a bachelorette of Nashville. I'm a single girl who works hard but loves even harder and I will celebrate this time of singleness until the RIGHT person comes into my life. Ladies, don't let society bully you out of owning the season of life that you're in. Because you're right where you need to be.

The look I chose for my Bachelorettes of Nashville shoot consisted of my fave Spanx faux leather leggings, off the shoulder top from Muse Nashville, Elaine Turner wedges and fun multi hoop earrings.

Pro Tip: As a petite, sometimes tops swallow me length-wise. A simple front tuck helps elongate your figure. Also, with off the shoulder tops, don't be afraid to show a little bra strap. I think sometimes it adds a little edge to an outfit.

One For The Broken Hearts

Allow me to put the rumors to rest.

Yes, I have been in a long-term committed relationship for the last three years that I was certain would lead to marriage and a happily ever after.

Yes, it has ended.

I've promised countless times to be real with you readers, and this instance should be no different. I've been absent in the world of blogging while spending time mending my heart and tending to my physical and mental health following my breakup. It's been a painful and seemingly endless journey but the sun has finally come out again and I stand on my own accord once more. During my downtime I've found solace in so many things, one being writing. It's such a powerful thing to write down your every emotion, the grievances you have with another, the pain that you feel, and after nights of writing I began to think of the millions of people going through exactly what I was going through. I thought of the countless hearts broken all over the world and realized just how important it would be to create a link, a chain between all of us. How important it would be to know that we share something so difficult but more importantly that we survive it together. So I knew I had to write again, but write for us this time.

I'm no stranger to heartbreak. I've had a decade worth of dating disappointments and there hasn't been a single one that was easy to move on from, but after each ending I have walked away with wisdom gained. I've learned valuable things about myself, about relationships, about dealing with heartbreak, and these are the things I want to share today. It's my hope that these things bring you comfort, encouragement, a sense of community and empowerment.

In no particular order...

  • It is OK to be sad. It is OK to be angry. It's important that we don't supress what we're feeling because one way or another you'll have to face those emotions. Better to get it out of the way than bottle it up and let it fester. Deal with it now. Agree that it sucks and then put it to bed.

  • You loved before him and you will love after him. Remember the last boyfriend you thought you could never get over and then you did? That's going to happen again. Don't grieve this relationship forever.

  • Beyonce helps. Like, a lot. [Lemonade on Repeat]

  • The real MVPs of this situation are your friends and family. Spend time with the people who have and always will be there for you. They want you to feel your best. Let them help you get there again.

  • STAY BUSY. I know you've heard this time and time again but the best distraction is a packed schedule. Do what you have to do. Take a trip, go to that event, hang out with people, pick up a hobby. Do what you have to do to keep moving. Before you know it you'll look up and months will have passed.

  • Rejection is NOT a reflection of your worth. I REPEAT. Rejection is NOT a reflection of your worth. Do not for one second think that you are not good enough, that you are damaged, or that you are not worthy of a happy ending simply because someone cannot recognize the beauty in you. YOU. ARE. WORTHY.

  • Dwelling on the what ifs and the could've beens is so unhealthy. We have to hope for a beautiful future and constantly looking at the past will distract you from moving forward. Remember, keep moving.

  • "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands..." ...Or boyfriends...or ex-boyfriends...or ex-husbands... Work out ladies, seriously, cardio really does help.

  • The only person responsible for your happiness is YOU. Grieving a relationship is a necessity but at some point you have to decide when enough is enough. No one else can do that. YOU have to want it.

  • Don't ignore the red flags. There's a reason you feel a particular way about them. The phone face down, the pulling away, the escalating dependence on alcohol, the friends you still haven't met, don't ignore those things. 9 times out of 10 they're the clues to unearthing a bigger problem that needs addressing

  • INFIDELITY BY YOUR PARTNER DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE LACKING. [Yes, the all caps were necessary]. Listen, if someone cheats on you, it is NOT because there is something wrong with you. It does NOT mean you are lacking anything. In fact, it's just the opposite. If your partner is unfaithful it is because there's something missing inside of them, there's some kind of internal battle going on with them that they have to work out. And that's all I have to say on that subject.
  • Don't be afraid to walk away. You don't need anything in your life that isn't bettering it. If it's hurting you or bringing you down just let it go. You deserve a relationship that lifts you up, encourages you, and enhances your life.

  • Beyonce helps. Have I said that already? [To the left, to the left]

  • The best revenge is success. Point all of that frustration at something that will boost you. Get your body right, hustle at work, do whatever you need to in order to come out looking and feeling like a champ. Go on brush your shoulders off.

  • Pick a mantra, say it daily. From "I can and I will," to "Matthew 6:34,"  find what inspires you to get up and take on the world then shout it because you're your biggest cheerleader.

  • And finally, keep believing in love. Broken hearts can be mended. If you can feel pain it means you're alive. No happily ever after was ever written without a few plot twists along the way. There's a Creator who fashioned you in His image and He loves you unconditionally and He will see you through this and every other obstacle you face.

We're in this together babes. Keep your chin up. I've got your back.
